Loggers and Banana Slugs share the spoils in scoreless tie to close Slugfest

UC Santa Cruz had four shots on goal to none, but couldn't make the shot advantage payoff in a 0-0 double-overtime tie with No. 17 Puget Sound.

UCSC goes to 3-2-1 on the year after their third-straight shutout of a school from Washington. Puget Sound is now 3-0-2.

The final game of the 2019 Slugfest featured tough defense throughout with only 12 shots combined in the 110 minutes (7 by the Loggers). UCSC had a pair of chances in overtime; after a long run, Ben Blackfield had his shot parried away 2:25 into the first overtime, while James Allison had the last good attempt with a curving 30-yarder with 6:53 left in the second overtime, but another big save by the Loggers' Ethan Stern-Ellis pushed it over the bar for a corner kick.

The Banana Slugs step up and play four Division II opponents in the next few weeks, starting Friday night in Seaside in a "Battle of the Bay" showdown with undefeated Cal State Monterey Bay.
