LA MIRADA - UC Santa Cruz closed their 30th Anniversary of intercollegiate swimming with an exciting fourth day at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference meet hosted by Biola.
The Women placed ninth with a score of 393 points while the men were edged by Concordia-Irvine 1,474-1,455 for the team title.
On the women's side, Kenya Lam finished with a school record 1:02.89 in the 100 Y Indiv. Medley. Freshman Elisabeth Lundgren placed third in the 200 Backstroke in 2:05.49. The nineteen-year old Lundgren shattered the school record of 2:06.67 set by former all-American Andrea Maglasang nineteen years ago.
For the men, Victor Sowa was third in the 100IM as well in a school-record time of 53.37. Sowa also swam leadoff as the 400 Free Relay team of him, Jeremy Peris, Vernon Wetzell and Christian Leon placed third in 3:11.43.
"The women had their first top three finisher in years, as well as school record breaker in Elisabeth Lundgren," said interim head coach Matt Crawford.
Diver Ethan Johnson won Male Diver of the Meet on Wednesday while his Coach Joan Newby won Diving Coach of the Meet.
"Both teams fought hard all week, swam well, and were better than last year. The men's team lost a close, hard fought meet, but I'm very proud of all the hard work they put in and the resiliency they showed over a tumultuous season."
