Banana Slugs defeated by Division I Roadrunners

BAKERSFIELD (1-11) – The Banana Slugs participated in their first dual match of the 2019-20 season as they travelled to NCAA Division I member CSU Bakersfield. The Banana Slugs fell 421.5-154.5 to the Roadrunners.
CSU Bakersfield won the men's competition 212.5-77.5 and the women's competition 209-77.

In the men's competition, the Banana Slugs won one of the sixteen events that took place: Akita Morita won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:03.51. As a team, the Banana Slugs' best finish was in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Matt Minshall, Paul Ogle-Sporer, Marc Pugeda and Victor Sowa finished second with a time of 1:30.85.

The UCSC women won one event in the sixteen events that they took part in. Individually, Meg Carrington had the best finish of the day as she won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:26.29. Izzy Blue was second in the 50 free by .14 seconds in 25.03, one second from the school record. The Banana Slugs' best finish team was second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Blue, Emma Brown, Ocelli Rivers-Altieri and Kaylie Walker finished in 1:44.54.

The next event for the Banana Slugs will be Senior Day on Saturday the 18th as they will host NAIA members Simpson University and Westmont College.
