Okerlund, Nickel lead Banana Slug sweep of ACAA Awards

UC Santa Cruz won every available postseason honor in their debut season in the American Collegiate Athletic Association.

Junior Claire Okerlund won Player of the Year and Cassie Nickel earned the Defensive Player of the Year in a vote by the League's coaches. Okerlund tallied 345 kills this season, third-highest in a season in school history. Nickel finished with 45 aces and 372 digs, both top-ten season marks.

Senior Alana Susbilla was honored as the league's Setter of the Year.

In addition, Gabrielle Houston won Coach of the Year after the school's first winning season in four years and Sinead Beaupain took home Freshman of the Year.

Susbilla, Nickel and Okerlund were named to the League First Team, as was senior middle Alex Everett.
